Excellent representation of the board game
While I have a few small criticisms, overall I was very pleased with this application as it aligned with the board game to a tee. A few suggestions:
1) The skeumorphic design of the application made it difficult to determine which spaces were what, as the icons for the resources/spots were very small. I would suggest making them larger. This is especially important for beginning players as anyone without a decent knowledge of the board game could be confused as to which icons mean what.
2) A nice addition to the application not included in the original game is the use of avatars/characters for each player. This is nitpicky, but the "character" options are quite limited. More specifically, there arent very many characters from which to choose, and nearly all of them look pretty deformed. It would be nice to see more choices with the ability to change the clothing, hairstyle, etc.
3) They did an excellent job of designing an interface which packs a lot of features into a tiny package—not an easy feat. However there is a learning curve and the tutorial isnt the most streamlined. I would suggest something where users new to the game can go through and execute each action as practice, with two options: a) a beginners option that includes descriptions of the rules alongside interactive introduction to the application interface and b) a tutorial for intermediate/advanced players which is just teaching the interface portion
4) Difficulty of computer-generated players: while the level of difficulty of the offline computer-generated characters gradually increases, they only peak around an intermediate skill level. It would be nice to see the addition of expert-level computer avatars.
5) With devices running older versions of iOS, the application is buggy in connecting to the online servers. While I have no problems connecting with my iphone 5, my first gen iPad running iOS 5 will say "connecting to server" but then never make it past that point. Because the app description says it will run on even older versions iOS, I think it is important that the app developers look into that issue, as it is rather annoying to have to play all online games on the smaller screen of my phone.
