Unfortunately broken

Was a great game before the most recent update. Now its unfortunately pretty broken. The AI only takes the same actions every turn, some building dont work properly and the game rules arent properly enforced. Really hope Big Daddy Creations releases a fix, would love to play again.

Very nice implementation

Game looks good and plays well. Only just started playing against AI so cant say if it will challenge. But really enjoyed learning to play the game using this app.

Unsure I would buy again if I had the chance

I like modern board games and have a fairly good collection of them but have never played this. Bought it as the companies other game, Neuroshima Hex is simply awesome. This game....I am very unsure. There is a learning curve. The tutorial is nearly non-existent as is the explanation of game goals and ways of winning. I will struggle on for a while longer but at present feel I just spent some money I didnt need to. If you have played the board game then I am sure your experience will be different. But if you want to have a quick and easy entry into understanding the board game then I think this may not be the best way of doing so. I hope I am wrong.

Bad Tutorial

I literally couldnt figure out how to play this game. Even its 2-sentence storyline doesnt make any sense.

Online Multiplayer Crashes

I cant make it through an online multiplayer session without it crashing. Ive reached out to the developers and they were unresponsive. This game is not maintained.

Crashed in mid-game

Not sure the upgrade was successful after all. The app crashes every time it tries to recover the game and process, and it will not let me invite Game Center friends.

Awesome rendition of one of the best board games ever!

Highly recommended!

Great board game, terrible app.

I have played the board game, and love it. The UI completely fails this app though. The graphics make it more difficult to tell which players have taken which spots, there are yes/no "prompts" which have no text to explain what youre being asked about, and theres no graphical cue for where play is up to on the road when scoring. I have persisted in playing because I love the board game, but this app is a travesty. And if I hadnt played the board game many times before, learning it would be impossible with this app.

Challenging

I really liked this game but since the iOS update theres a bug. When its your turn to place a piece on the board a dialog at the bottom tells you the cost of placing the piece, that dialog no longer appears. If your opponent "passes", the cost of placing a piece rises so its important to know the current rate. Please fix so I can give it 5 stars again.

A modern classic

Ive been into modern board games for a few years now, and always heard about Caylus and how dry and boring it is. But I decided to give it a shot, and man am I glad I did. The game is absolutely outstanding. Theres so much depth to the strategy, planning ahead your moves, blocking opponents, driving them to your buildings, squeezing out those last few victory points. It is hands down one of my new favorite games. The port by Big Daddy Creations isnt the prettiest or most dramatic, but it conveys the theme smartly and is well laid out. I could think of a couple of tweaks that might improve functionality, but they would be pretty minor and would only add to what is already a really solid app. The tutorial works really well for first time players (like me), though I cant say how a total newbie to board games would take to it... Having a familiarity with worker placement games like Agricola or Lords of Waterdeep would probably really help.

Crashes every time

Wont get past the title screen without crashing back to the OS. What a waste.

Online multiplayer is really lacking

This is a good port of a great board game. AI is very weak but the games go quick. Would give it 5 stars if online multiplayer functionality were better. Theres no notification when its your turn to play, and you have to "log in" through several screens just to get to your online game and find out that your buddy still hasnt played. My friend and I were texting each other every time it was the other persons turn but that gets old quickly. The only way you can play online with friends is if you all agree to a virtual gaming session, and at that point Id rather play a physical board game.
